An Invitation
from Garcia & Milas
At Garcia &
Milas we know that the strength of a law firm starts with its lawyers.
We believe that when you mix first-rate lawyers with interesting
clients and cases you create an atmosphere that encourages excellence.
One of the very
first things an associate will notice when she or he joins the firm
is that associates are not locked in back rooms doing endless document
review. To be sure, associates do document review, legal research,
drafting of motions, and preparation of discovery requests and responses.
But we also believe that diverse and challenging work assignments
promote professional growth and development. So our associates are
provided with opportunities to work on sophisticated legal matters
early in their careers, and to assume responsibilities commensurate
with their experience and training levels.
Recent examples
of associate work assignments include:
- second-chairing
an important insurance industry case tried to a jury in federal
court;
- working as
part of the litigation team in preparing and conducting the examination
of certain witnesses in connection with the arbitration of a major
construction case;
- preparing
an appellate brief in a case involving significant franchise industry
issues.
Senior associates
routinely handle motion practice in state and federal courts, and
are given trial responsibilities in appropriate cases.
One of the keys
to professional growth and development is the firm's commitment
to continuing legal education. We actively promote attendance at
training programs and seminars offered by local, state, and national
bar associations, continuing legal education providers, and industry
groups. The firm also provides substantive feedback on a regular
basis to associates in connection with specific work assignments.
Our team approach to handling larger matters also facilitates learning
from more senior attorneys.
We work very
hard, but we have fun practicing law together. We strive to promote
a firm culture that values the talents of a diverse group of people,
and that involves all the attorneys in nearly all aspects of firm
life and governance. We also are committed to public service, and
any one week will find us serving on industry or non-profit boards,
or serving meals in the downtown evening soup kitchen.
Garcia &
Milas is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate in
hiring or employment on the basis of race, sex, color, age, religion,
national origin, sexual preference, personal appearance, political
affiliation, marital status, family responsibilities, physical or
mental disability or record thereof, mental retardation, or status
as a veteran. We believe a diverse group of attorneys adds to our
success and our enjoyment of the practice of law. If Garcia &
Milas sounds like the kind of firm in which you would excel, we
invite you to tour our website at www.garciamilas.com and contact
